Ok, this is my second attempt at this. The first time this conniving board said I wasn't allowed to post. It's unbelievable, it's as if computers smell fear, and then strike at their defenseless prey.
Yes, I'm technologically challenged. Please be patient with my diability.
Ranting out of the way, on to introductions. Hey everyone, I'm Patty. I was Andrew's classmate for two years (two extremely fun years!). I'm 18 now, and I'm about to start my freshman year at WashU in St. Louis. I'm an undecided major for now, but I like all those subjects where you think a lot for no reason. You know, philosophy, psychology, history, literature... Sure, I won't develop a process for cold fusion, but I'll find something to apply all my knowledge. Literary criticism perhaps? Writing revisionist history books? Maybe. (yes, I'm a nerd, no need to point out the obvious)
Anyway, I'm an open minded Catholic girl (how's that for an oxymoron?), which should spice up our debates. Now, I'm no expert in aplogetics, so my opinions won't be dramatically enlightening, but I do like to hear both sides of everything to make up my mind, so I'll be happy to participate in practically any discussion. I understand that Catholics aren't the world's favorite people (I think we rank second on the Most Hated Social Groups List, right after Lawyers. Wow, we moved dentists and politicians to 3rd and 4th place respectively!) but if you keep an open mind with me, we'll have fun, you'll see.
Regarding my interests, well... let's just say that if it has words in it I'll read it, and if it is composed of sounds I'll listen to it. That's right. I like all books and all music. But if I'm forced to take favorites... I like... foreign music, especially in German and Russian. Oh, and Greenday and Snow Patrol. Yeah, that's good.
With books, I like fantasy, but I'm very picky, so only few books please me. I also like the classics (Crime and Punishment, anyone?) and anything that makes you stop and rethink everything you thought you knew about the world. For example, Foucault's Pendulum, my favorite book of all time, and a work of pure genius. It's the same with movies. I like movies that make me think, although a light flick every once in a while ain't too bad. What would life be without a little Shrek?
Random Facts about me:
The only vegetables I'll eat are potatoes, onions and lettuce (only in a sandwich though)
I starred in Stuffed Fantasies. How's that for embarrassing? I made out with a Martian!
I have an unhealthy interest in Stalinism.
I enjoy discussing epistemological issues and metaphysical questions, but I still have no idea how to turn on a Playstation 2. (I double checked, there's no "on" or "power" button)
I can use big words in a conversation and write English A1 Higher Level commentaries, but up until a few days I didn't know how to say semaforo or papel aluminio in English.
If you read this far, I like you.
See you later everyone!
Trish.
